Former Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Nobuhle Nkabane
Higher Education Portfolio Committee Chairperson Tebogo Letsie has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to axe Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane as minister.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) alleges that Nkabane helped engineer the appointment of African National Congress (ANC)-connected individuals to the boards of skills development organisations and lied to Parliament to cover that up.
Nkabane has denied the allegations against her and said in a statement, that it had been a privilege to serve in her position.
Letsie believes Buti Manamela’s appointment as her replacement, will be beneficial to the department because of his vast experience.
“We were in the middle of an inquiry ourselves with the former minister Dr. Nkabane about whether or not she has misled Parliament about the independent panel that she would have said existed. We welcome the decision by the President to exercise his right. We also welcome Buti Manamela as the minister, we know he brings wealth of experience, it’s going to bring value.”
