Some residents at Ward 13 in Seshego in Polokwane, Limpopo, have expressed excitement over the victory of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the by-election held on Wednesday.
Over 9 000 eligible voters registered to vote in the ward.
The EFF retained the ward with just over 57% of the votes.
Political parties including the EFF, African National Congress (ANC), South African Communist Party (SACP), Labour Party (LP) and All Citizens Party (ACP) contested the elections.
Some residents say they believe that the new ward councillor, Mongatane Ramaphoko will accelerate service delivery in the ward.
“I am happy that we won at Ward 13. I hope that we’ll get service. We will not have load shedding and have running water every day. We will get jobs. I am too happy as we know the councillor used to be our councillor before. We know he’s a hardworking person that one we are sure whatever we need, we are going to get it.”
