Former ANC Youth Leage secretary general Sindiso Magaqa.
The family of the late former African National Congress Youth League Secretary-General, Sindiso Magaqa, has welcomed the sentencing of Sbusiso Ncengwa who pleaded guilty to his murder.
Ncengwa has been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for Magaqa’s murder by the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court.
Ncengwa faced 11 charges including conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, malicious damage to property, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Magaqa and two other councillors were injured when attackers opened fire on his car in July 2017 and died in hospital months later.
Magaqa’s brother Lwazi says the family is still calling for the arrest of the mastermind.
“We are hoping that since the sentencing has been made, the big fish is going to be caught now. The situation is not good at home. Sindiso’s mother is aging, 71 years old. Sindiso left three young beautiful girls. The first one is doing grade 10 and the twins are doing grade 8. Sindiso’s mother is living on social grant because he was the breadwinner. The situation is not good.”
