Sibusiso Ncengwa gets 25 years for Sindiso Magaqa’s murder


The man who pleaded guilty to being part of the killing of former African National Congress ANC Youth League secretary general, Sindiso Magaqa, has been sentenced to 25 years for the murder by the Pietermaritzburg High Court in KwaZulu-Natal today.

Sibusiso Ncengwa admitted to shooting Magaqa in 2017 in the uMzimkhulu area and pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of Jabulile Msiya and Nonsikelelo Mafa, who were in the car with Magaqa.

He also pleaded guilty to attempted murder of Nceba Mazongolo who was close to the scene during the shooting.

He faced 11 charges including conspiracy to commit murder, murder, attempted murder and unlawful possession of a fireman as well as ammunition.

Handing down the sentence, Judge Nontuthuzelo Mlaba said Ncengwa showed disregard  for human life when he agreed to the ploy to kill Magaqa.

“Mr Ncengwa you are sentenced as follows: count one – conspiracy to commit murder, you sentenced to 25 years imprisonment. On count two which is attempted murder, you are sentenced to 25 years in prison. Count three attempted attempted murder, you are sentenced to five years imprisonment. Cancel attempted murder you sentenced to five years improvement. Malicious injury to property you are sentenced to three years improvement. Count 10 and unlawful possession of fire you sentenced to five years imprisonment count 11 and unlawful possession of ammunition, you are sentenced to one year imprisonment. The sentences on count one, two, three and 11 run concurrently with a sentence in count two.”
