High Court in Pietermaritzburg
The man who has pleaded guilty to the 2017 murder of former African National Congress Youth League secretary general, Sindiso Magaqa, is due to be sentenced in the Pietermaritzburg High Court today.
37-year-old Sibusiso Ncengwa changed his plea to one of guilty last month, resulting in his case being separated from his two co-accused, Sbonelo Myeza and Mbulelo Mpofana.
Magaqa, who served as councillor in the Umzimkhulu Municipality, was wounded in an attack in July 2017.
He died in hospital after succumbing to his injuries.
According to Ncengwa, the hit was ordered by the then uMzimkhulu Municipality officials who allegedly paid him and his co-accused a huge amount of cash.
Ncengwa further states that they were also promised lucrative tenders as compensation for carrying out the hit.
His co-accused maintain they are innocent.
The fourth accused, Mlungisi Ncalane, who was subsequently declared unfit to stand trial, is currently in a psychiatric facility.
