Trade, Industry and Competition Deputy Minister Andrew Whitfield has been fired from the Government of National Unity (GNU) cabinet.
This is confirmed by the Presidency, who state that the move was made in terms of Section 93(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa has thanked Whitfield for the time he served in the role.
Questions on a cabinet reshuffle, however, still remain unanswered as the Presidency noted that the president has not indicated any intention to conduct a wholesale cabinet reshuffle.
