N Cape gold smuggler’s case postponed to July

A case against a Northern Cape man who was arrested for being in possession of an illegal gold bar estimated at R10 million has been postponed to July by the Postmasburg Magistrate’s Court.

Itumeleng Dinku was apprehended after the police received a tip-off that he was selling a gold bar.

Provincial Hawks spokesperson Tebogo Thebe says Dinku failed to explain where he got the gold bar from.

“52-year-old Itumeleng Dinku made a brief appearance before the Postmasburg magistrate court facing charges of possession of a suspected illegal melted gold bar. Mr Dinku matter was postponed to 7 July 2025 for a formal bail application.”
