The Western Cape government aims to produce 15 gigawatts of green energy and export over 400 000 tonnes of hydrogen by 2035.
The plan forms part of the province’s Green Hydrogen strategy, which is included in national energy goals.
The provincial government says the move will drive economic growth, job creation, and energy security in the Western Cape.
It says green hydrogen is a vital step towards a low-carbon, high-growth future. The provincial government also says its solar, wind, and port resources make it ideal for investment in green energy.
