ActionSA backs call for commission of inquiry into NPA

ActionSA Parliamentary leader, Athol Trollip, has backed a call for the establishment of a commission of inquiry into the state of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

This after EFF Leader Julius Malema wrote a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa to probe the independence of the NPA.

The National Director of Public Prosecutions, Shamila Batohi, made remarks that the NPA has been “infiltrated” by corrupt prosecutors.

Trollip says this is long overdue.

“It sounds like he’s got behind our action that we already did last week. We wrote to the Minister. We wrote to the speaker. We wrote to the President. We asked Parliament to convene an urgent inquiry into the NPA. So, I’m very pleased that Mr Malema and the EFF agree with the steps that we’re taking. There have been various calls from other political parties to reinforce the independence of the National Director of Public Prosecutions and to remove the Hawks and to bring back the Scorpions. So, I’m very pleased that the EFF has aligned with what we’ve already done.”
