Stats SA to release its quarterly labour force survey results

Economist at Nedbank Group Economic Unit, Johannes Khosa, expects a slight deterioration in the first quarter employment numbers for 2025 today. Stats SA is set to release the Quarterly Labour Force Survey.

The results of the previous survey showed a slight improvement in South Africa’s employment landscape, driven by seasonal hiring trends over the festive period.

Khosa says, “In other words, we expect a small increase in the unemployment rate. One of the reasons being that you know the economy at the moment is not growing fast enough to absorb the growing labor force. ”

“Another reason is that, you know, is because of seasonal factors. If you recall, during the first quarter of the year. We have like new entrants into the labor force and we have new graduates coming in.”
