ANC Peter Mokaba regional conference to go ahead despite disputes

Limpopo’s African National Congress (ANC) Peter Mokaba regional task team leader, John Mpe, says the regional elective conference will go ahead despite murmurs from disgruntled party members.

Mpe says about 120 delegates from various branches have been accredited to attend the 10th regional conference.

He will be contesting against Capricorn District Executive Mayor Mamedupi Teffo for the position of chairperson.

Earlier this week, a group of unhappy party members protested outside the provincial ANC offices calling for intervention, as they allege that there are bogus delegates and irregularities in the process.

Mpe says registration of delegates will be finalised tomorrow.

“The disputes that were processed made us know that those branches are now moving to be registered. They needed 31 registered, they are going to register tomorrow morning, which will bring the total to 87 within 56 plus 31 to 87. 87 is above the 79% threshold. As we speak now, there are nine other disputes that are being processed by the PDRC.”

Furthermore, regional task team, deputy co-ordinator, Edward Paya, says the conference was delayed as the registered delegates were not forming a quorum.

“The are members of branches who are complaining that the quorum was not reached and you must know that the branch will not continue any meeting, that will become constitutional as the quorum is not reached. Those are some of [the complaints] they are raising. Some disputes are as far as the information written on the package is not the information that the branches agreed upon.”

Meanwhile, just over a week ago, two separate urgent applications to interdict the Vhembe ANC regional elective conference were struck off the roll by the Thohoyandou High Court.

Some ANC members from various branches, along with members of the party’s Regional Task Team (RTT), filed separate court applications seeking to stop the conference scheduled to be held in Thohoyandou.
