The North West provincial government has started to recruit unemployed graduates from the North West University.
This after the signing of a memorandum of understanding that aims to curb the high unemployment rate in the province.
The unemployed graduates will assist with research, sports and mining, amongst others.
In its collaboration with the local university, they hope to fast-track service delivery in the community.
Premier of the North West Lazarus Mokgosi says they see it as a collaborative effort, believing that the university has expertise and skills which government may not have, including resources.
Mokgosi states that they need to have a collaborative relationship to ensure that they are collectively able to address new challenges people face.
Furthermore, the university’s Vice Chancellor Professor Bismark Tyobeka says a strict recruitment process will be followed.
“What we do is we going into our data base of graduates, recent graduates, unemployed graduates and we sent, we pick based on their performance of course and then we send these opportunities to them and then they apply. They express interest, and the committee goes through the process of short listing and calling them up for interviews,” says Tyobeka.
