The MK Party says it has deliberately decided not to involve itself in the ongoing debate over the reversal of the Value Added Tax (VAT) increase.
MK Party Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu addressed members during a mini rally held in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, yesterday.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana recently submitted documents confirming that VAT remains at 15 percent.
Shivambu emphasized that the party supports the majority view of South Africans on the matter.

“We are not going to be involved in whether VAT must increase or not because we know that the majority of South Africans say it must not increase. We know that we represent the majority. We are a party and a movement of the majority,” said Shivambu.

WC High Court stops VAT hike
The Western Cape High Court has ruled to suspend the VAT hike. This would mean there will be no VAT hike on May 1.
The High Court has also set aside the resolution of the National Assembly adopting the report of the Joint Standing Committee on Finance on the Fiscal Framework and Revenue proposals adopted earlier this month.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza and National Council of Provinces Chairperson Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane have been ordered to pay 50 percent of the legal costs, including costs to two senior counsel.
