ZCC Easter pilgrimage provides tourism boom for Limpopo

The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) says the number of tourists who are visiting the province this weekend has surpassed previous Easter weekends.

This as the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) holds its first pilgrimage in Moria outside Polokwane following a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Visitors are also attending the St. Engenas Zion Christian Church’s Easter pilgrimage, also in Moria.

The St. Engenas ZCC resumed mass gatherings in 2024. LTA CEO, Moses Ngobeni, says around 2 million visitors are in Limpopo for the Easter weekend.

Ngobeni says locals are reaping financial benefits from the increase in tourism in the province.

“Both the township and also the village that accommodate people who are selling on the road. A lot of guys are coming to the church, we are in a higher LSM able to look up some additions. The evening, people go and rest in the hotel.”
