Civil society urges Parly to rectify adoption of Fiscal Framework

Some civil society groups say it is not late for Parliament to rectify the adoption of the 2025/26 Fiscal Framework and the revenue proposals including the proposed Value Added Tax.

Parliament managed to pass the Fiscal Framework with the slight margin early this month.

Matshidiso Lencoasa from Section 27 says Parliament needs to correct this adoption.

“Well, we have a few issues but the main issue is that, is the Fiscal Framework that was passed in Parliament a few weeks ago because it included a 0.5% point VAT increase to fund this expenditure side. So, we are really urging and saying that it is not too late to correct that, and I think Amandla dot mobi has made a similar point because the increases will likely, as we seen in 2018, cause an increase in inflation and so these rising costs that are due to VAT increase may likely erode the impasse of increase allocations to schools.”
