The EFF is adamant that it will not support the 2025 budget despite meeting with a high-level delegation that ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula led in Sandton, Johannesburg yesterday.

In a statement, the EFF says the engagement must not be mistaken for participation in seeking alternatives to the VAT increases.

The EFF says the budget in its current form punishes the poor.

ANC and DA leaders meet

The leaders of the ANC and the DA are set to meet today

The much-anticipated meeting follows the two parties’ fallout over the ANC’s proposed increase in Value-Added Tax. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the proposed VAT increase in the 2025 budget which he delivered in Parliament last month.

The DA is against the budget and has launched a legal challenge against the implementation of the VAT hike.
