Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry and Competition is visiting the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) headquarters in Pretoria, as part of their oversight work.

Minister Parks Tau has launched an investigation into corruption and maladministration at the State-owned Enterprise.

Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament, Tobias Chance says they have been receiving whistleblower accounts of disturbing issues at the SABS.

“We started getting emails from whistleblowers revealing very concerning information about what was happening. This led to a series of letters and requests to the minister to investigate. Internal investigation has been taking place. But there’s always been some cover ups. Those doing it are those supposed to be investigated. Eventually, the TSU investigation protection services is the one that was appointed in February to conduct an investigation that is underway. They are here certainly not to cause of any disruption or any trouble. But to draw an attention to the public that the troubles are not going away,” says Chance.
