The ANC, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and uMkhontho Wesizwe are contesting by-elections in Joe Morolong Municipality in Northern Cape.
The contested ward 1, previously represented by the ANC, became vacant following the death of a councillor.
The ward was won by the ANC in local government elections in 2021.
Provincial IEC spokesperson, Olebile Gaobepe says, “The vacancy resulted from the death of a councillor. Voting started at 07h00 at all four voting stations which all opened on time. They will remain open until 21h00 tonight. The results will be announced tomorrow morning.”
