Mbeki and Kabila meet in Johannesburg amid DRC tensions

1 minute

Former Presidents Thabo Mbeki and Joseph Kabila held talks at the Thabo Mbeki Foundation in Johannesburg, focusing on African leadership and development.

The meeting between the two leaders comes after the collapse of DRC talks in Luanda, Angola. The discussions were aimed at finding the lasting peace in the eastern DRC.

The M23 movement pulled out of the talks saying other members of the group were sanctioned.

Mbeki was the AU chairperson in 2002 when Kabila and Rwandan President Paul Kagame signed a peace agreement in Sun City South Africa. However, the pact was not implemented.
