Gauteng residents have high expectations of Maile’s budget speech.
It will be all eyes on Maile to see how much will go to departments to deal with the challenges facing the province.
Unemployment, infrastructure development, crime and water challenges are among some of the pressing issues facing Gauteng.
One resident says, “Whether you are working or not, whether you are poor or rich, crime is affecting each and everybody, so I wish they can focus on putting more money on crime fighting.”

Another resident says, “If you really want to do justice in addressing the issues of GBV, we strongly believe that there should be budget that is allocated for primary preventative projects to ensure that young people are being taught issues of GBV.”
Political Analyst Dirk believes this year’s budget speech will not be an easy one. He says it will need to factor in the upcoming local government elections.
“It means they need a turnaround strategy; therefore, the budget must make very short-term impacts. They don’t have the time to make perspectives so I think we are going to see a lot of short-time spending of the budget.”
