President Cyril Ramaphosa delivers the opening address at the meeting between the National and Gauteng Provincial Executive held at the City of Johannesburg Council Chambers in Braamfontein
President Cyril Ramaphosa has emphasised the importance of making Gauteng metros, particularly Johannesburg, presentable ahead of the G20 Summit. The gathering will take place in Johannesburg in November.
He says there will be around 130 meetings in the country, and most will be hosted in the Gauteng Province, adding that G20 meetings are a good springboard for attracting investments.
It will be the first G20 Summit to be held in Africa.
Ramaphosa met the Gauteng provincial government leadership as part of the District Development Model of integrated planning and delivery among the different spheres of government in each district. He will conclude the two-day meeting on Friday at the Joburg City Council.
The President says provincial leaders should plan how they will receive world leaders.
“So, I’m making a call to all of you in Gauteng, as well as in the metros, let us make our metros presentable. We are the President of the G20, all of us collectively, one and all. And as we are going to be getting visitors throughout the year. Let us make our province and indeed our country presentable. As we do in African tradition, when visitors come, we make sure that our abode, poor as it might be, becomes presentable.”

‘Transform lives’
President Ramaphosa has also urged Gauteng government leaders to use the outcomes of his interaction with them to transform the lives of the province’s over 15 million residents.
The engagements between the President and provincial leaders are aimed at enhancing intergovernmental coordination to improve the delivery of basic services.
This is in line with the seventh administration’s priorities. Ramaphosa has highlighted the importance of collaboration.
“What emerges from this meeting must not remain as just plans on paper. The outcomes of this meeting must be transformed into practical, measurable interventions that directly benefit the people of Gauteng. Through a collaborative and solutions-oriented approach, we will drive sustainable development, improve service delivery and enhance the quality of life for all who call this province home. Let us seize this moment with urgency and determination, ensuring that every commitment made here today is followed by decisive action.”
