Zulu King Misuzulu defends cultural practices, warns detractors

King Misuzulu KaZwelithini has warned those who attack the culture of the Zulus to refrain from doing so, as it destroys and misleads the nation.

King Misuzulu was addressing thousands of maidens at Emashobeni Palace at Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.

He says those who attack the cultural activities, including the Reed Dance, attack the nation and the King himself. He specifically mentions cultural expert Musa Xulu, who spoke to the SABC earlier on Saturday.

King Misuzulu emphasises that he will always protect the culture of the Zulu nation until he dies.

“I am here to protect the culture of the nation and the nation, but leave those who attack this ceremony. But we are watching them and we are not stupid. Secondly, I am begging the journalist that when it comes to the culture of this nation, they must forget. I will protect the nation no matter who you are. We have our own culture that we believe in and that we respect and if you want to know more about our culture, don’t call people who don’t know about our culture, am I clear?”
