Zille calls for swift prosecution of Deputy Principal accused of rape

Democratic Alliance Federal Chairperson Helen Zille is calling for swift prosecution and a severe sentence for the Deputy Principal at Bronkhorspruit Primary School, who allegedly raped an eight-year-old learner on the school premises.

The accused faces three counts of rape.

Zille has emphasised that educators have a sacred duty to protect, guard, and teach children. She says cases like this underscore concerns about safety and accountability in South African schools.

“When there is an allegation of child abuse in our schools, it is a terribly serious issue and the Children’s Act has specific provisions that require us to take action when such things are suspected to be happening. In this case, a child injured allegedly by her Deputy Principal after having sex with her as an 8-year-old at the school premises is disturbing.”
