Mining for minerals
Some young professionals working in the mining industry say careers in the sector should be promoted more at schools.
Founding Secretary of the South African Mining Youth Association, Vumile Mbonani says industry role players should work together to make mining more attractive to the youth.
He was speaking during the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.
“We need to go back to early childhood development because when you go back to schools and there are careers exposed, it is rare to find a student who says they want to do a career in mining. Most of them who are doing STEM subjects want to be a doctor or scientist and so on so we need to make mining more attractive, not only for students, but also to investors.”
