Prof. Musa Xulu
South African Church Defenders (SACD) has welcomed the decision by Professor Musa Xulu to step down as the chairperson of the CRL Rights Commission.
Xulu made the announcement at a media conference in Boksburg east of Johannesburg, accusing the Commission of intimidation, procedural irregularities and a hidden agenda to control religion.
He claims he was not treated fairly.
“I want to say that the SACD will continue and will proceed with the court case against the CRL. It has now become more urgent. Following the disclosures made by the professor here, regarding the formation and even the operations of the Section 22 Committee. These disclosures confirm what we have consistently mentioned that the committee was illegally constituted and that the co-chairperson has been operating outside the confines of the constitution,” says SACD chairperson Pastor Mpfariseni Mukhuba.
Xulu says the committee was meant to explore self-regulation within the church, not impose state control.
Xulu further alleges the use of divisive language and the creation of platforms to discredit him.
