Women’s World Cup final underway after rain delay

Good news for South African cricket fans. After a rain delay in Navi Mumbai, the highly anticipated Women’s World Cup final between South Africa and India is now underway.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The Proteas are playing in their first 50-over World Cup final, hoping to become the first senior national team from South Africa to win an ICC World Cup.

Hosts India have also not won a 50-over World Cup but are playing in their third final.

Meanwhile, a public viewing to watch the historic ICC Women’s World Cup final has been set up at the home of Proteas Women’s national team coach, Mandla Mashimbyi, in Lulekani, Phalaborwa, in Limpopo.

Forty-five-year-old Mashimbyi has guided the women’s national team to its first-ever World Cup final.

Mashimbyi’s brother, Sipho Mashimbyi, says he is hopeful that the Proteas will win the World Cup.

“We are so excited and wish he would come back with the cup today. We have put this arrangement for the community to come and watch with us and see the final. We strongly believe that people are coming. We are going to have a good time celebrating because this is all about the country, and we are happy that God has raised one of our own to lift the name of South Africa to the whole world.”
