The revised schedule of the remaining witnesses for the Nkabinde Inquiry is expected to be submitted to the panel by the end of Wednesday.
Inquiry spokesperson Tiyisela Mpuzana says this follows National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head advocate Shamila Batohi, excusing herself from the ongoing cross-examination this week, without submitting a formal application for excusal to the panel.
Mpuzana says this affected the planned schedule and sequence of witnesses.
The Inquiry has adjourned on Monday, and will resume on January 26th next year.
Mpuzana further explains, “Advocate Batohi excused herself from the proceedings without submitting a formal application for excusal to the panel. Following the adjournment, the evidence leaders, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Legal Team, and the Legal Team representing Advocate Andrew Chauke met and agreed on a revised schedule of the remaining witnesses.”
Mpuzana adds, “The panel will then assess the time needed to conclude the evidence and will consider approaching the President, through the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mamoloko Kubayi, to request an extension of the enquiry’s timeframe.”
