Adv. Matthew Chaskalson at the Madlanga Commission.
Witness F has denied that WhatsApp messages believed to be between him and the late former Deputy President David Mabuza over an arms deal were with Mabuza.
WhatsApp messages presented at the Madlanga Commission show a conversation between Witness F and a number allegedly belonging to the late Mabuza.
When further probed by evidence leader Adv. Matthew Chaskalson about who the number belongs to, Witness F claims that it was Mabuza’s nephew, Siphiwe’s number.
Chaskalson: “The message was sent from the phone of the late Deputy President. From the nephew’s phone?”
Witness F: “That’s correct.”
Chaskalson: “But you saved the nephew on your phone as Comrade DD Mabuza, Deputy President?”
Witness F: “That’s correct.”
Chaskalson: “Why do you save the nephew’s phone under the name Comrade DD Mabuza, Deputy President?”
Witness F: “That is how I felt I should save it.”
