Madlanga Commission in session
A new witness at the Madlanga Commission has been testifying in Pretoria about a murder scene in Brakpan, Ekurhuleni, where EMPD Deputy Police Chief Julius Mkhwanazi was allegedly called to assist in cleaning it up.
Witness D is testifying partially camera where only his voice is audible. He has testified that the deceased was allegedly suffocated. His testimony corroborates that of suspended Police Chief Jabulani Mapiyeye and retired Deputy Police Chief Revo Spies who testified about Brigadier Mkhwanazi’s alleged involvement at the crime scene.
Witness D elaborates, “Chief superintended Mkhwanazi said that the body should be thrown in the mine shaft or dumped into a dam. You make the point of stating that when he said that he looked at you. What did you interpret that to mean? Commissioners it was clear at this stage that it was expected from me to dispose of the deceased body. As I said especially after the meeting took place between themselves.”
Witness D also testified Mkhwanazi appointed private security members to the EMPD.
Evidence before the Madlanga Commission states that at least three police officers attached to the EMPD alongside Brigadier Mkhwanazi have been implicated in wrongdoing.
Concluding his testimony at the Commission, Witness D says those appointed by Mkhwanazi were involved in recovering stolen copper, stolen cobalt and chain store products …
“Jaco Hanekom, Chris Smit from Track Squad and Etien van der Walt who also owns Track Squad as well as Titan security. All at some stage had appointment letters from EMPD stating that they form part of a EMPD Truck hijacking task team. These letters were signed by Julius Mkhwanazi.”
