Young girls fighting against GBV.
A non-profit organization, Witbank Victim Support Centre in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, has urged community members to play a crucial role in protecting young girls.
This comes after the arrest of two people for grooming and statutory rape in Emalahleni.
Apparently, the 25-year-old woman coerced a 15-year-old girl into having sexual intercourse with the 33-year-old man, who is now her co-accused.
It is alleged that she forced the same girl to have sexual intercourse with another man who paid R100 on the same day.
The spokesperson for the Witbank Victim Support Centre Antoinette Deirner says, “My concern is that we need to interact with these young girls before they go to high schools because they already starting in primary schools. There’s a lot more that I think we should be able to do. We do go to schools at least once or twice a year and we try to merge the schools and after our visits we do get phones calls but they are anonymous phone calls, where we get to coach and counsel these kids over the phone,” says Deirner.
