The Premier of the Western Cape, Alan Winde, has reflected on the responses that the Cape Province has stepped up to make sure that there is delivery to the people of Cape Town.

Delivering his 2025 State of the Province Address on Wednesday, the Premier says in less than a 100 days his government has managed to build schools, adding that they have also invested in infrastructure across the province that enables them to grow the economy and provide job opportunities.

Officials from the Western Cape government, members of the provincial parliament and political parties descended on the Central Karoo town of Beaufort West, where Premier Winde delivers his SOPA.

Winde says, “More people can find a job in the Western Cape than anywhere else in the country. For the last half of 2024 our employment rate was below 20% at 19,6%. The Western Cape now leads on all four employment metrices that Statistics South Africa measures quarterly.”

He says the partnership between municipalities and the private sector will add another 5 700 megawatts of affordable, reliable, renewable energy to the province’s grid by 2035.

Winde says that there is currently no clarity on the country’s budget, which has been postponed until 12 March. He describes the situation as uncertain, stressing that this has led to the distress of international markets.
