Western Cape yet to place 7 000 learners ahead of school reopening

Some parents are still seeking placement for their children as schools get set to reopen on 14 January. The Western Cape Education Department says by mid-December it had already placed over 96% of learners in grades R, one and eight.

It says placement is still in progress for about 7 000 learners in these grades.

Delft resident Nosiviwe Tshona, who is seeking a grade eight placement for her son, says the schools she applied to are full.

“Yes, I did apply, but I applied late, on the last day of the application, but they say my son is not getting a school. We didn’t get my child’s report, that’s why we applied late. It is very hard, I am not feeling okay, until my son gets a school, I’m going to be happy.”
