Western Cape ramps up Easter road monitoring with drones

The Western Cape Minister of Mobility, Isaac Sileku, says they’ll be using drone technology to monitor long-distance minibus taxis and buses over the Easter weekend.

He says that it’s one of the busiest times on the roads leading into and out of the Western Cape.

Sileku says that through the government’s Exodus programme, free safety checks are being done for long-distance taxis and buses at the Joe Gqabi Public Transport Interchange in Philippi, on the Cape Flats.

“This is a high-risk period, and through these operations, our traffic officers are working with all partners to prevent crashes and to save lives. We urge all road users to obey the rules and to plan their trips and prioritise road safety, this Easter,” says Sileku.
