Weather Services warns of disruptive weekend rains in KZN

A team at the KwaZulu-Natal Disaster Management Centre is closely monitoring persistent rainfall in the northern parts of the province. The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for disruptive rains for this weekend.

The provincial Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Department says certain parts of Umhlabuyalingana, Nongoma and Jozini are under pressure. This as water levels rise, affecting roads and low-lying bridges.

The department’s spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says, “In these areas severe heavy rains have caused widespread flooding with a number of communities already under threat of continued flooding. The provincial management centre is monitoring all the weather conditions and is working closely with municipalities and agencies of the states to ensure safety in communities. Residence are urged to follow safety protocols and ensure that they do not endanger themselves or their families.”
