We Buy Cars has been fined a R2.5 million fine

Used cars trader, We Buy Cars, has been issued with a R2.5 million administrative fine and ordered to also refund more than R3.4 million to consumers.

The National Consumer Commission says this follows a three-year investigation revealing that the company contravened the consumer protection laws.

Spokesperson Pheto Ntaba says they received complaints from consumers alleging that We Buy Cars refused to provide redress for their sales.

“Consumers were alleging that We Buy Cars refused to provide redress following the terms of conditions of sale that they would have signed between themselves and the supplier.”

Ntaba says, “As part of this settlement agreement, which was actually confirmed by the tribunal on the 19th of December, We Buy Cars is going to pay an administrative fine of R2.5 million. They’re going to refund a total of R3.4 million and R119 000 to consumers in a form of refunds. They’re also going to revise their terms and conditions to ensure that they’re aligned with the CPA.”
