WC intensifies efforts to contain Foot and Mouth outbreak in Gouda

Agriculture Western Cape says efforts are under way to contain and eradicate the spread of Foot and Mouth disease, after an outbreak in the Gouda area.

The organisation says the area around the outbreak is under quarantine.

Last week, the Western Cape Veterinary Services placed two more properties with cattle in Velddrift and Bredasdorp under precautionary quarantine.

Foot-and-mouth is a highly contagious disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals such as cattle.

It does not affect humans.
