The Hawks in the Western Cape say a member of People Against Gangsterism and Drugs (Pagad), Faizel Felix has been rearrested after absconding from court facing a charge of illegal possession of a firearm.
The 52-year-old made a brief appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Monday.
Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani says Felix has been on the run for eight years.
Hani says reports suggest that the accused was arrested in August 2015 for the illegal possession of a firearm by the Special Investigating Group for the City of Cape Town.
She says the matter was later given to the Hawks for further probing,
“Felix appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate Court for the illegal possession of a firearm. He was granted bail but disappeared, he never attended court again. This led to the court issuing a warrant for his arrest and subsequently, his arrest today.
The case is ongoing with the man’s next court appearance scheduled for July 17 at the Wynberg Regional Court. Felix remains in custody.”
