WC Education Dept works to resolve outstanding learner placements

The Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) says it is addressing outstanding learner placements in the province.

Parents are still queuing at regional education offices across the Western Cape to secure school placement for their children.

Hundreds of learners are still without confirmed placement as the academic year is underway.

Education authorities say population growth, late applications and limited spaces in schools continue to strain the system.

The Department’s spokesperson, Bronagh Hammond says, “The WCED is addressing applications that are still outstanding. The 10-day Snap survey was conducted yesterday, with schools submitting data. As the 10th school day has now passed, learners that have not arrived and have not provided any valid reason for their absence can be deregistered, thus opening space for more learners. The department will also begin to analyse school enrolment numbers to determine where there may be enrolment opportunities for learners.”
