South African athlete, Bayanda Walaza, adds to the World University Games sprint double to his already impressive list of achievements in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany.
The 19 year old reigning world under 20-champion, added the 200 metres gold medal that he won earlier this week, clocking a time of 20.63 seconds. In other events, Aiden Smith secured a gold medal in the men’s shot put edging out his competitors with his final throw in the competition.
Mondray Barnard rounded out a successful night for South Africa with a bronze medal in the men’s 110 metre hurdles. The South African team boasts are now seventh on the table with 16 medals in total of which seven are gold.
Prior to this, Walaza also took part in the junior world championships, claiming gold medals in both the 100m and 200m events in South America.
