W Cape urges SASSA beneficiaries to switch cards before deadline

The Western Cape Social Development Department says it will continue to engage Postbank and the social security agency SASSA to ensure support for beneficiaries during the switching of cards. This follows the extension of the deadline to May 31st for switching from the agency’s gold cards to Postbank’s black ones.

The department’s minister, Jaco Londt, has urged grant beneficiaries to make the change as soon as possible.

“Next week we will be meeting with SASSA and Postbank, where we will once again try to pressure them into stepping up. We know there are staff on the ground working extremely hard to help vulnerable residents; we have seen it ourselves. But we also know there are a myriad problems that could have been avoided had proper planning gone into the card migration process. We remain committed to assisting however we can, but we are urge these national entities to do better for the most vulnerable in our communities.”
