The family of a 26-year-old student who was found dead at Ga-Sekororo outside Tzaneen in Limpopo has accused the police of failing to bring her killer to justice.
Valentia Mashumu’s lifeless body was found in her boyfriend’ house in February this year.
Her brother, Thabiso Mashumu says the body had a cracked skull and brain clots.
The discovery was made several days after Mashumu left her rental place near the Maake TVET College, where she was studying.
Police Spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba says the case into Mashumu’s killing has been withdrawn due to lack of evidence.
Mashumu says his sister’s killing left the family heartbroken.
“The investigating officer did not even bother to come to us or to call us. Then after few days, we heard that they arrested the guy who did this. After a few days, they released the guy. So, us Mashumu family, we saw the guy on the street moving freely. That is very painful to us because we don’t know what happened. They did not even inform us or call us in order to inform us (that) we are releasing this guy because of this and this or under this condition,” says Mashumu.
