US will be biggest losers for not sending delegation to SA for G20: Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the G20 Leaders Summit starting in Johannesburg next week, will go ahead as planned with or without US President Donald Trump and its delegation.

Trump, who initially said he will not attend but will send his vice President JD Vance, has now pulled out the whole American delegation from the summit.

The US delegation was expected to attend as the incoming president of the next G20 Summit with Ramaphosa expected to handover the presidency to the US.

Ramaphosa says the US will be the biggest losers for not sending a delegation to South Africa.

“President Trump has decided not to come and has pulled out all the US representatives. But we have said that boycott politics never work, if you boycott an event or a process you are the greatest loser because the summit will go on and the show will go on. We are not going to stop because they are not here.”

Ramaphosa adds, “We will continue and we will take fundamental decisions on matters that affect people of the world. The G20 represents up to 80 percent of the global economy so anybody who pulls out or who boycotts it’s the loser because the caravan always moves on.”
