US plans trade negotiation template for Sub-Saharan Africa

The United States (US) is considering putting together a template that will guide it in its trade negotiations with sub-Saharan countries.

South Africa’s Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Zuko Godlimpi says he recently spoke to the US representatives in Angola, where this issue was discussed.

He was speaking in an exclusive interview with SABC International Editor Sophie Mokoena on the sidelines of the BRICS Business Forum in Brazil.

“The opening remarks by President Lula da Silva were quite instructive. Gave us a good reflection of the task that the BRICS countries must assume in the context of the geopolitical fallout that is affecting trade. There is a question of whether they are able to muster the demand among themselves that is sufficient to de-risk our economies from the effects of trade fallout globally,” says Godlimpi.
