Updated: Isuzu SA’s R750-million investment in Eastern Cape welcomed

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has welcomed Isuzu South Africa’s investment in a new R750-million metal stamping facility launched in Gqeberha on Thursday.

The plant positions local supplier VSL Manufacturing, which is a majority Black female-owned company founded in Komani in 2018, as a key player in the provincial automotive supply chain.

The project has already created 120 permanent jobs across Gqeberha and Komani, with the company saying it has the capacity to expand and open more vacancies over the next three years.

Mabuyane delivered the keynote address at the launch of the high-tech Struandale facility, calling it a major step for job creation and supply-chain resilience as global tariff tensions reshape automotive markets.

“We are warm at the gesture of Isuzu Japan, by Isuzu South Africa and also by the entrepreneurs like VSL, a great opportunity. We are looking for jobs, we have got to develop the Eastern Cape, it’s not just about one factory coming up, it’s about the huge development we need in the Eastern Cape and we believe that we possess that ability to industrialise.”
