Dr Malusi Gigaba
The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) says former Public Enterprises minister Malusi Gigaba has not been arrested.
Earlier reports said Gigaba handed himself to the police in Pretoria on Friday morning and the National Prosecuting Authority charged him with corruption.
Gigaba’s lawyers have been meeting with officials from the IDAC in Pretoria.
He was responding to summons from the National Prosecuting Authority.
IDAC says it is engaging with the lawyers of Gigaba, who has not been arrested and will not appear in court on Friday.
The charges against him relate to contracts including one for the procurement of locomotives worth multi-million-rand at Transnet.
IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame says Gigaba is co-operating with investigators.
Gigaba handed himself over to police in Pretoria on Friday morning.
Samkele Maseko reports on former Minister Malusi Gigaba:
As SABC’s Samkele Maseko reports, this matter relates to the charges that were laid by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema some time ago regarding the shenanigans that transpired at state-owned company Transnet at that particular time. At the time of these particular shenanigans, Transnet was allegedly captured by the Gupta brothers when Gigaba was Minister of Public Enterprises.
