UPDATE: Fire damages historic Laborie estate building in Paarl


A colonial building at the Laborie Wine Estate in Paarl in the Boland has been damaged in a fire.

Firefighting helicopters and ground crews have been deployed to the scene to prevent the flames from spreading.

Emergency services also reportedly evacuated guests and visitors, as a precaution.

Additional crews deployed

Additional crews have been deployed as firefighting efforts continue at Laborie Wine Estate in Paarl, after a blaze broke out shortly after midday on Saturday.

Drakestein Municipality spokesperson, Zulpha Petersen, says two structures have been damaged, including the Cucina Di Giovanni restaurant and the first wing of the estate’s accommodation facilities.

She says firefighters are working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the historic Manor House.
