UPDATE: Death toll in Saulsville shooting rises to 12

One more victim of the Saulsville mass shooting in Pretoria West has died, bringing the death toll to 12. Among those killed are three minors aged 3, 12 and 16 years old.

Thirteen others were injured and are being treated in hospital.

The shooting happened at a drinking establishment at the local hostel in the early hours of this morning.

Police say three gunmen allegedly entered the establishment and opened fire on patrons at random.

The owner of the shebeen and mother of the three- and 12-year-old children is among those injured.

Speaking in Soweto at COSATU celebrations, President Cyril Ramaphosa condemned the killings and called for swift action to bring the perpetrators to book.

“And I’ve also said that the police must investigate this, and those responsible for the terrible incident of killing so many people at one go must also be looked into very seriously by the police. I’m certain the police will do their work.”
