UNITE party vows to end feeding trough companies in Johannesburg

The UNITE party is calling for the closure of all the specialist companies which fall under the City of Johannesburg.

The party, which is barely two months old, held a mass meeting in Kliptown, Soweto, where it sought to recruit people to stand as candidate councillors in next year’s local government elections.

Johannesburg, which lies at the centre of the country’s most populous province, will be one of the most contested battlegrounds in the polls.

Rise Mzansi Leader Songezo Zibi says the metro’s satellite companies are being used as feeding troughs.

“Imali ikhona laeJoburg but mane macompany emanigi City Power, pick it up, Chobeg Power, Roads Agency, Chairperson, Chief Executive, CFO, babatala amamillions. Just put a manager there and hold them accountable for zonke lazazinto. The City of New York does not have so many companies iyasebenza. London doesn’t have so many companies, iyaspana. Berlin doesn’t have so many companies, iyaspana. You’ve got someone who’s being held accountable to do the job. In South Africa, you want 30 people. A board, an Exco, management committees and so on, kudliwimali.”
