An unemployed nurse has helped a woman to deliver a baby girl during floods in Mbaula village outside Giyani in Limpopo.
Maggie Setagane assisted as the woman could not access a local clinic after heavy rains caused floods which damaged roads.
Setagane says she reached the woman when the water started to subside.
“People have lost their houses such as 10 rooms, eight rooms and now they do not have anywhere to sleep. Some even had to climb to the ceilings as their houses where flooded. For us who were not affected, we had to rush to help as soon as the water subsided. The floods swept away walls, furniture and all essentials.”

Meanwhile, Rhandzu Chauke, a mother of a nine-month-old baby, says she is grateful that her child survived after being swept away by floodwaters, despite the incident nearly adding to the country’s rising death toll.
The baby was swept away on Friday while they were crossing a bridge in the Vhembe District
