Unemployed doctors in KZN to demand action from govt

The unemployment of qualified doctors has become a serious concern as over 1 500 of them remain jobless in South Africa.

A group of unemployed doctors in KwaZulu-Natal have now taken a stand, as they prepare to march from the UNISA Pietermaritzburg campus on Monday morning to highlight the crisis and demand action from government.

One of the conveners, Dr Mxolisi Xulu, elaborates on the aim of the march and how other unemployed doctors can join them.

“Our Minister said that they don’t owe us an employment or placement of jobs, therefore we are supposed to go to private or else go to overseas and we are saying we are here, we studied here in SA. They supported us as the department for medical school, and we are saying we are not leaving and we’re here to serve our communities.”
